From Gyang Bere, JosThe Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos has urged its members to resume work fully as the union vacated the sit-at-home resolution earlier taken when Federal Government paid members half October salary. The branch Chairperson, Associate professor Lazarus L. Maigoro in a press statement on Thursday in Jos said the union has resolved to step down from the sit-at-home decision and allow its principal officers to handle the issues of salary arrears with the Federal Government. He said ASUU UNIJOS had resolved not to resume lectures on account of payment of half salary by the Federal Government which they said will not cater for their transportation to work after staying at home for 8 months without salary.“You will recall that at our congress meeting of 4th October 2022, members resolved to sit or work from home in view of the half salary paid to our members for the month of October which cannot take them to their places of work, having stayed for more than eight (8) months without salary in as much as they really want to work.“Our branch resolution, of course, was subject to the final decision of our national body. However, after receiving briefing at our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of 7th October 2022, our members resolved to vacate the sit/work at home decision while also reaffirming our commitment to the ability of our principal officers to handle the matter appropriately.“This implies that our members are fully back to work on campus,” he stated.
