Ben Affleck has revealed that he was supposed to share an on-screen kiss with his kissing scene with co-star and longtime friend Matt Damon in their film, The Last Duel.

The Good Will Hunting stars will be reuniting on screen for the upcoming period drama, however it appears the pair won’t be getting as close as their script originally intended.

The actors actually co-wrote the script together along with Nicole Holofcener and had originally penned a scene where Matt’s character kissed Ben’s.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the film stars explained that it was changed to have Matt kneel in front of Ben instead.

Ben, 49, joked: ‘That’s what goes on at home too.’

‘I actually have to kneel before him,’ Matt added with a laugh. ‘Once he started directing, that’s actually how I have to get in his house.’

In the film, Matt stars as Jean de Carrouges, a French knight during the Hundred Years War who was involved in the last officially sanctioned duel in France’s history.

Ben stars as Count Pierre d’Alençon, a French nobleman while Adam Driver plays his squire Jacques Le Gris.

‘In the original version of the scene – the way that ceremony actually took place was that you kissed everybody on the mouth,’ Ben explained. ‘And we had that in the script.’

Matt added: ‘That would’ve been our first on screen kiss’.

Ben quipped: ‘It’s going to have to wait.’

It was director Ridley Scott that decided to cut the kissing scene before filming even began as Ben explained: ‘Ridley thought it would be distracting, and his instincts are pretty good.

Matt added: ‘Yeah the two characters really hate each other and that was really fun.

‘In fact, the scene where I kneel before him, Ben just improvised this thing where I started to say my line and he just interrupted me and goes, “Closer.” And I have to kind of get up and kneel again in front of him. And that was just – he just did that and just kind of blurted that out, and it wasn’t in the script.’

The Last Duel is released in cinemas on Friday October 15.
