Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has said that the club cannot defeat Arsenal in their crucial Premier League clash on Sunday with Scott McTominay in the midfield.
McTominay was named in Erik ten Hag’s XI to provide a cover for Casemiro who was suspended in their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in midweek
The former Real Madrid midfielder has been arguably Manchester United’s best player this season, contributing immensely to Ten Hag’s climb to the Champions League place in the Premier League table.
Scholes, who won several trophies playing midfield for Manchester United, said McTominay cannot replace the Brazil international.
“Without Casemiro it looks like two or three players are missing today. He brought in McTominay who hasn’t played a lot of football and the last Premier League game he started was a defeat.
“I’m really worried about our midfield area against Arsenal. You look at McTominay and Eriksen possibly against four players the likes of Xhaka, Partey Odegaard has been fantastic with Zinchenko dropping into the midfield.
“I don’t see how this team will stop Arsenal. Casemiro is very experienced. A player that plays his position really really well. He’s always in the right place and senses danger.
“McTominay is a very good player. But don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he’s got the same game awareness as Casemiro. Casemiro knows exactly what to do.”
