Chairman of the board of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande, has advised the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant agencies to provide road signs and warnings on Ibadan-Iseyin Road.
Akinde noted that this is necessary in order to avoid more deaths on the newly reconstructed Ibadan-Iseyin Road.
VELOXNEWS recalls that about 18 people lost their lives on Saturday during an accident that occurred on the road.
Akande in his reaction, advised relevant agencies such as FRSC, the state government and other stakeholders to erect road signs and warnings on the road to prevent further accidents on the road.
Akande, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) also used the medium to commensurate with the Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Abdulganiy Salaudeen Adekunle, and the family of the victims of the accident.
Akande in a statement made available to VELOXNEWS on Monday, described the accident as unfortunate.
He explained that he received the news with shock.
He said, “The NCC BOSS also called on the relevant agencies in the state to focus more on the newly constructed road by providing adequate road signs warning motorists as they approach bumps and bends on the road.
“I admonish motorists, especially commercial drivers to always exercise caution and avoid over- speeding on our roads.
“These kinds of carnage on our roads are avoidable if only motorists adhere to road safety rules and regulations.
“It is with a heavy heart that I received the unfortunate news of the death of 18 people in a ghastly motor accident along Iseyin/Moniya road.
“I just pray God will comfort the families of the deceased on the irreparable loss of their beloved ones.”
