Former WWE superstar Gabbi Tuft has shared a powerful nude selfie to mark one year since she started her gender transition.
The 42-year-old retired wrestler, who worked for the company as Tyler Reks between 2008 and 2012, came out as transgender earlier this year and has now opened up on the day she made her decision.
Alongside a powerful before and after photo taken ‘exactly one year’ apart, she can be seen wearing just a towel in the 2020 selfie and underwear in a snap taken this week.
She wrote: ‘I remember this day very clearly. I had made the decision to begin my transition and had begun my regimen for losing muscle mass.
‘I hid behind a lie that I was losing weight so I could use a hyperbaric chamber at @bioxcellerator_ . My “goal” was 220-lbs, which was the weight limit for the chamber.
‘I knew that I couldn’t hide behind this charade for long, as I was losing muscle at an unbelievable rate.’
However, Gabbi admitted she ‘wasn’t thinking about that’ when she took the photo, as she was ‘elated’ knowing what was to come.
She continued: ‘On this day, one year ago, I wasn’t thinking about that. Rather, I was internally elated knowing I was two days away from starting hormones and embarking on the greatest journey of my life.’
A year on, the star noted she has no regrets about her transition and hopes can inspire others to be open about their own ‘journey’.
She said: ‘I have zero regrets and wouldn’t change a moment. I only hope that through my transparency, others won’t feel the need to hide their journey out of fear, the way I did.’
Gabbi previously revealed she experienced ‘fear’ and ‘ridicule’ during her own journey, but admitted she feels ‘stronger’ after coming out on the other side.
She explained: ‘You may experience fear. You may experience ridicule. You may experience extreme emotions.
‘Navigating our way through these oceans though, is what makes us stronger. These seemingly harsh waters force our courage to rise, they solidify our strength and our confidence, and allow us to stand firm in WHO we were meant to be.’
