Gunmen in Imo State on Saturday morning, abducted an official of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) Kingsley Okoroafor.
A source who disclosed the incident to our correspondent said the victim was whisked away from his home town, Umuadara Umulogho autonomous community in the Obowo Local Government Area of the state.
The traditional tuler of the community, Patrick Uwalaka, who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate and terrible.
According to the source, the victim was abducted while attending a wake keep of the late traditional ruler of Ndihu autonomous community in Obowo LGA, Innocent Anyawu, who was buried yesterday.
“They trailed the NDDC staff after he left the wake keep to his community where he was later abducted.”
The source further disclosed that the suspects had established contacts with the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of N10m for his release.
The spokesman for the police in the state, Michael Abattam, was yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the incident.
