ICAN, ANAN stage health walk to celebrate Accounting Day in Plateau


From Gyang Bere, JosThe Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) Plateau State have staged a health walk to mark the 2022 International Accounting Day in the state.The health walk, which commenced at about 9 am under tight security from Olusegun Obasanjo Model Secondary school Hwolshe culminated at the Secretariat Junction Flyover bridge Jos with a call on employers of labour to prioritize and give prestige to the critical role of accountants in maintaining sound and accurate financial records in the country.Chairman Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Jos District Society, Helen Temtsen said the health walk was to strengthen Accountants in the state, who lived in their offices for a long period of time without exercise.She said, “This day is celebrated on the 10 November every year by Accountants worldwide, it is a day we want our employers to appreciate Accountants for the beautiful work that they are doing in Nigeria for Nigerians.“Without accountants, no organization will work effectively and that is why we in Jos celebrate this day with a health walk to enable us to stay healthy to serve Nigeria” she stated.Chairman Association of National Accountants of Nigeria ANAN, Plateau State branch Andy Agbasi Udah noted that the International Accountants Day celebration is very significant as it provides them with the opportunity to review their successes.“This year we decided to do a health walk because of the nature of our work because sometimes you need to take time to move around so that you can refresh and that is what we are actually doing here.He noted that despite the numerous challenges accountants pass through in Nigeria, accountants have remained the life wire of everything organization in the country over the years.“If you don’t take your accountant seriously, it means you are not taking your records seriously. Therefore, accounting is a serious profession that must be taken seriously for accurate financial records.”He admonished his colleagues to continue to live up to their constitutional responsibility of maintaining accurate financial records to stem corruption and other misgivings in society.
