Villareal manager, Quique Setien, has explained why his team defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in Saturday’s La Liga tie.
Setien said his team defeated Real Madrid because his players started well against the visitors, adding that they dominated the rival’s half and generated chances.
The former Barcelona coach watched as Villarreal defeated Real Madrid at the El Madrigal on Saturday, thanks to goals from Yeremy Pino and Gerard Moreno.
“We started well, dominating the rival’s half and generating chances,” Setien said at his post-match press conference after the game.
“We suffered a few occasions but were positive in both directions.
He added, “We focused on this aspect in this match because if you let Madrid have the ball, it will create more problems for you.
“We have had predisposition, and we were effective in our press. I am happy [about] the match.”
