LASUSTECH students petition Sanwo-Olu over power outage

By Gabriel DikeStudents of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) have petitioned Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the epileptic power supply to the school saying they were studying in darkness.Daily Sun gathered that staff in the main library now use torchlights to work due to erratic power supply, while students have abandoned the library. It was also learnt that workers in audit section have moved to another building as a result of poor power supply.     The students in the petition expressed displeasure over the manner the school has been run by the new administration. The letter signed by the Speaker, Asekun Elijah, Deputy Speaker, Bakare Azeezat, Majority Leader, Adams Sadiq and Clerk 1, Oduguwa Abdulrahman, said since the inception of the new administration, students have been made to study under unconducive classrooms and lecture halls due to inadequate power supply. They lamented the absence of power supply to the library for the past two weeks, saying the trend has made it difficult for them to read ahead of their forthcoming examination. The students recalled a meeting held with the Governing Council where it was resolved that issues affecting students should be channeled to the Rector.“But what happened thereafter is the emergence of different news with a source confirming to us that every resources coming and in out of the system has to pass through the vice chancellor. Further implication of this is the segregation between our students and the unborn university students which is gradually manifesting. We have been perceiving constraints and limitations which is likely to result to a full-blown conflict in the nearest future,’’ the students said. The polytechnic students appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to come to their aid.Spokesperson of the school, Lanre Kuye, said management was not unmindful of the erratic power supply to the school and disruption of work.He pleaded with staff and students to bear with management as it makes efforts to restore power supply to the school.
