Harrowing footage shows the moment a mum-of-three unwittingly leapt 80ft to her death when a ‘rope free-flying’ jump went horribly wrong.

Yevgenia Leontyeva, 33, can be seen calmly stepping over the edge of a hotel rooftop in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, ahead of the plunge.

But instead of slowing down as she reached the ground, Ms Leontyeva was swept across the car park and slammed head-first into a wall after a supporting rope tied to a tree either failed to hold or was not properly secured.

Onlookers who had been standing alongside her on the roof can be heard screaming as watchers below rush to help following the sickening impact.

Adventure-loving Ms Leontyeva – an experienced jumper – was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery for serious head injuries, but died soon afterwards.

Before the tragic leap, she and a friend had posted messages reading ‘Live it up’ and ‘We’re going to fly’.

The clip shows a man fixing harness straps onto Ms Leontyeva, while another off screen can be heard telling her: ‘I love you.’

There is then a countdown before she steps over the ledge and jumps off.

A female friend who was due to follow her over the ledge moments later can be heard screaming as the leap goes wrong.

The cross-line to which her rope was attached – and which was supposed to break her fall leaving her suspended above the ground – failed to hold or was not even properly attached.

She crashed into the pavement below and was dragged around 12ft across the ground before crashing against a wall.

Witnesses said the jump was permitted to go-ahead before an organiser had time to secure the line to a tree.

Reports said a man was seen falling to the ground as she crashed down. He is thought to have been holding the safety line and was floored by the force of her fall pulling on the unsecured rope.

Ms Leontyeva was mother to three boys under 14 – two of her own as well as the son of a relative who had died.

Many locals had been preparing to make extreme jumps on Sunday.

A criminal investigation has been opened into the tragedy, amid suspicion of ‘negligence’ on the part of jump organisers. The maximum potential punishment is a 40-day sentence.

Stomach-churning rope jumping or rope free-flying is an extreme sport originating in the US in the 1990s.

It is similar to bungee jumping, but the rope is made of nylon so jumpers don’t bounce.

It is practiced on cliffs and high buildings and has been described as a cross between bungee jumping and abseiling, with dizzying rope swings.
