Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday announced July 31, as new deadline to end the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The commission hinged the decision on the judgement delivered by the Federal High Court on Wednesday, which dismissed the suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) seeking an extension of the exercise beyond June 30, 2022. In a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee Chairman, Festus Okoye, INEC announced the extension of the registration duration by eight hours and through the weekends.
“We appreciate the interest of Nigerians to register and participate in the electoral process and once again reiterate our commitment to credible and transparent elections. This can only be achieved with the support and cooperation of all Nigerians,” the statement read.
