Nigeria needs your intervention, CUPP begs Obasanjo – The Sun Nigeria


From Ndubuisi Orji, AbujaCoalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has appealed to former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his intervention to ensure that the 2023 general elections is conducted in compliance with the ElectoralThe CUPP spokesman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, after a meeting with Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, told journalists, that it is imperative for the 2023 polls to be free, fair and credible.Ugochinyere, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, thanked the former president in his peace building efforts in Africa, especially in Ethiopia.However, the opposition coalition spokesman said the country equally needs the intervention of President Obasanjo in the run-up to 2023 general elections.According to him, as an international statesman, it is imperative for Obasanjo to step out and actively get involved in using his respected global reach and advocacy to ensure Nigeria’s democracy and upcoming election are conducted in an atmosphere of free,fair and participatory election where the electoral rules are obeyed.“At this moment, Nigeria needs the fatherly support of Obasanjo and his international allies to ensure that Nigeria is not undermined and elections are credibly conducted without intimidation or interference of the opposition parties, or clampdown, manipulation or intimidation of electoral institutions in any way.” Obasanjo’s intervention is also needed more now at home where many pressing challenges have created tension, economic crisis and mutual distrust which have now become potential threats to peaceful election and transition.“A situation that urgently calls for Obasanjo’s prowess in international advocacy, before it’s too late,” Ugochinyere stated.
