1. The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the zoning of the position of the national chairman to the north. Briefing journalists at the end of Thursday’s NEC meeting, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, said NEC had ratified the zoning of chairmanship to the north. The move was aimed at paving the way for the emergence of a southern candidate as the party’s presidential candidate

2. President Muhammadu yesterday presented the 2022 budget of N16.39 trillion to a joint session of the National Assembly, justifying his quest for more financial borrowings. The President, who also noted that the federal government’s debt was within sustainable limits, said nation’s the borrowings were tied to specific strategic projects.

3. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State yesterday said the possibility of the declaration of a state of emergency in his state is not an idea of President Muhammadu Buhari. The Governor said this Wednesday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

4. The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra yesterday, said governors of the South-East geopolitical zone and the elite in the region were too infinitesimal to decide the fate of the Igbo. The Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful stated this on Thursday while reacting to the statement credited to the Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, saying leaders of the zone was comfortable sticking with Nigeria than move to Biafra.

5. The National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Media Warriors’ Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, has alleged that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has vested interest in the Anambra State November governorship poll. Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Chinedu said Malami was among the Abuja cabal that promised to make Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress, the governor of the State at all cost.

6. No fewer than 10 persons, including policemen were yesterday killed as gunmen invaded Isu and Onicha-Igboeze communities, of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Two policemen were reportedly killed in Isu, while others met a similar fate in Onicha Igboeze. The Police Public Relations Officer, in the State, DSP Loveth, confirmed the incident.

7. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said the decisions of PDP on zoning and others will determine its chances in 2023. Speaking during the opening session of the party’s 94th NEC meeting held at the PDP National Secretariat, on Thursday, Atiku said the PDP has the right to determine its rules on how the party should be governed, while the people of Nigeria also have the right to determine who govern them.

8. The Emir of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, Sanusi Mohammed, Thursday, blamed widespread insecurity across Nigeria on leadership failure. He spoke in Abuja during the launch of a book titled: ‘Leadership Principles for Junior Commanders in the Military’ written by Col. Chukwu Obasi.

9. The Nigerian Army has said Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu, was arrested for soliciting support for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a statement on Thursday, Onyema Nwachukwu, Army spokesman, said Agu was nabbed while inciting people.

10. The Imo State Police Command yesterday, confirmed that operatives of the command killed a suspected members of the Eastern Security Network, a militant wing of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB. A statement by the command’s spokesman, CSP Michael Abattam, said the hoodlum had been in the command’s wanted list but on the run after participating in several killings of police officers and burning of police stations.
