Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang, has described Saturday’s Local Government election in the state as a charade, mockery of democracy and a huge joke that will not stand the test of time.
Senator Jang was reacting on Monday after Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) announced on Sunday that the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the local, chairmanship and councillorship seats in Saturday’s election.
He took the APC down the memory lane that there has never been such impunity in the history of Plateau election given that there was a court case on LG polls where PLASIEC was a defendant yet the agency went ahead to conduct election.
Jang lamented that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was excluded from participating in the election.
The former lawmaker who represented Plateau North Senatorial District, berated the state governor, Barr. Simon Lalong over his disregard for the rule of law despite being a lawyer.
“If the APC government was as popular as it has portrayed itself to be, the right thing to do was to allow its state-funded umpire conduct a free, fair and credible election to test its popularity.
“Governor who is a lawyer and had served as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly will engage in such blatant disregard for due process is a thing of concern”, Senator Jang posited.
According to him, Barr Lalong has desecrated the legal profession which made him who he is by blatant disregard to due process for him to oppress the citizens at all costs.
