Ukpai elected NNPP guber candidate for Abia

From Okwe Obi, Abuja

Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai has been declared the winner of the Abia State New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) governorship primary election held at the state’s secretariat in Umuahia.

Dr Ukpai from Ohafia in Abia North Senatorial zone was the sole aspirant for the gubernatorial ticket.

He was elected in a voice vote by 552 delegates of the party representing the 184 Wards of 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

The election was conducted by the State Working Committee led by Hon. Victor Ogaranya and monitored by INEC officials, DSS and other security agencies.

The Electoral Committee Chairman, Chris Akomas, declared Ukpai as the winner of the primary election and flag bearer of the NNPP in Abia State for the 2023 governorship election.

Responding, Dr Ukpai thanked delegates and the entire members of NNPP in the state for the confidence reposed in him to fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll.

He commended the electoral committee and delegates for a free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful exercise, stating that NNPP would win the election and usher in a new Nigeria that citizens desire and deserve.

Ukpai bemoaned the deplorable condition of Abia State under the outgoing PDP government and assured the people that his government if voted into office would breathe fresh air into governance, implement people-oriented projects, transform Abia State and restore its past glory as the commercial hub of the nation.

He urged the people to take their collective destiny into their hands and vote for New Nigeria People’s Party candidates in all elections to experience a new and better Nigeria which only NNPP would offer.
