Zoe Ball’s son Woody Cook has set the record straight on his parents ‘cutting him off’ financially after saying he couldn’t afford to buy a loaf of bread.

Woody is the eldest child of the BBC Radio 2 DJ and her former husband Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim.

In a recent interview, the 20-year-old said the pair have ‘cut him off completely’ so he could be financially independent – the former couple are estimated to be worth £35million combined.

The Circle star was quoted as saying he was so strapped for cash that he didn’t have enough money for bread recently.

However, Woody has clarified his comments by hilariously posing with two loaves of bread in a supermarket, captioning the post: ‘Absolute lies.’

He then explained in an Instagram post: ‘Everyone has to leave their nest, go on their own path and forge their own lives. My parents have always expressed I must have a capacity to leave the nest and I have rather successfully for the most part.

‘I choose to be self sufficient early as living without the financial aid of my parents is as important to me as it is to pretty much anyone else; I had an opportunity so I took it! I’m not quite sure what the fuss is all about.’

Some of Woody’s famous followers applauded his comments, with Steps singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins writing: ‘BLAZE THAT TRAIL !!! 🙌 xx.’

Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies said: ‘Good for you 😘♥️xx.’

He was earlier quoted as saying to The Mirror at the Attitude awards last week: ‘My parents make it clear that I was born into a privilege they have had to work their ass off to get.

‘My parents have cut me off completely. They are like, “Do you want to be a trust fund child or do you want to work?” I want to work, so I am now self-sufficient. I don’t have a student loan.’

He added: ‘I am doing it all by myself. The other day I couldn’t afford bread, but I’m working through it.’

Woody’s mum Zoe, 50, previously hosted Strictly Come Dancing spin-off It Takes Two and is currently presenting BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show after replacing Chris Evans.

In September 2020, it was reported that the DJ had requested a pay cut from the BBC after growing ‘uncomfortable’ with her £1m salary pay rise.
